The mission of AIDSLaw is to provide excellent, specialized legal services for people living with HIV/AIDS in Louisiana, to improve their quality of life and access to health care, related to their HIV/AIDS status.

Staff

AIDSLaw of Louisiana, Inc. is blessed to have an outstanding, committed professional staff. We also maintain a listing of numerous volunteer attorneys throughout the state who are available to assist members of the HIV-affected community. In addition to staffing the offices in New Orleans, our attorneys regularly travel throughout Louisiana to provide legal services and hold seminars and training sessions.

Don Paul Landry Don Paul Landry: Executive Director

Mr. Landry became the Executive Director of AIDSLaw in October of 2010. He is a former Assistant Attorney General to the Louisiana Department of Justice and has maintained a civil practice in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana since 1999. During the course of his practice, he has also served as Special Counsel to various New Orleans defense firms, including Barrasso, Usdin, Kupperman, Freeman and Sarver, and Best Koeppel. Mr. Landry’s practice experience includes governmental relations, medical malpractice, personal injury, insurance defense, class actions, toxic torts and general civil litigation. In the early years of his practice, Mr. Landry was an attorney for the St. Parish Indigent Defender Board and also handled over 150 civil pro bono cases referred by the New Orleans Assistance Corporation and Capital Area Legal Services Corporation. Prior to entry into private practice, he was a summer intern to Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Harry T. Lemmon.

Mr. Landry received his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law in 1994 and his B.A. from Louisiana State University for 1989. He is a member of the Louisiana State bar Association and admitted to practice in all federal district court in Louisiana.

>Mr. Landry is the Director at Large for the St. Charles Parish Bar Association. He is also a past President of the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education and both a former member of the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and former President of the FBA’s Younger Lawyer’s Division.

Mr. Landry currently serves on the Board of Directors of Halloween’s In New Orleans, Inc.; has served on the Board of Advisors of the St. Charles Parish Chapter of Catholic Charities and was a committee member for the 2000 United Way Mississippi River Hale Boggs Bridge Run. He in a former Political Co-Chair of the Louisiana Human Rights campaign and served on the Louisiana HRC steering committee for many years.

Stacy Morris Stacy Morris: Deputy Executive DIrector

Stacy received her J.D. from Southern University Law Center, Baton Rouge. She was awarded the Student Attorney Award from Phi Delta Theta. Stacy's background includes working with Louisiana Crisis Assistance Center and extensive experience in private practice relating to Social Security and Disability, Criminal Defense and Domestic Violence and Juvenile Matters. In addition to a broad range of professional knowledge Stacy also maintains membership to numerous professional associations. Stacy has been with AIDSLaw since 2009.

Joshua Holmes Joshua Holmes: Full-time Staff Attorney

Joshua received his J.D. from the University of Missouri, where he organized a law student cooperative and led members to New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He subsequently coordinated two National Days of Solidarity with Student Hurricane Network, raising awareness and recruiting others to volunteer on the Gulf Coast. After graduation Joshua worked at The Pro Bono Project, managing Senior and Homeless Outreach programs, and serving as Advocacy Committee Chair for Unity of Greater New Orleans. Joshua has been with AIDSLaw since 2010.

Louise Bienvenu Louise Bienvenu: Supervising Attorney

Louise joined AIDSLaw in October 2004 as a part-time staff attorney. Louise is a 1988 graduate of Loyola School of Law, where she was a founding member of the Loyola Public Interest Law Association, served on the Law Review and handled cases as a student lawyer on the Law Clinic. Louise worked for three years with the Mental Health Advocacy Service and served on the Board of Directors for the Advocacy Service for the Elderly and Disabled for two years. For the last 12 years, she has maintained a private practice, focusing on civil and criminal litigation. Louise spends three to four days per month in Baton Rouge working with AIDSLaw clients at Family Services and Volunteers of America. Louise has been a valued staff member since 2004.

Christal Hurst Christal Hurst: Full-time Paralegal and Intake Specialist

Christal received her Bachelor degree from Grambling State University in Criminal Justice and Paralegal Studies. Prior to joining AIDSLaw, Christal was part of Campus AIDS Prevention, served as a Junior Sheriff Deputy and Junior Police Officer. Christal has been a member of the AIDSLaw family since 2007.

Samuel Ashley Samuel Ashley: Full-time Operations Manager (New Orleans Office)

Sam began employment at AIDSLaw in April 1997 as an Intake Specialist. With a degree from Southern University and a number of years of administrative experience in the United States Navy, Sam quickly mastered the skills and duties of this new position. When the position of Office Manager/Outreach Coordinator became available, Sam was selected to fill that position. His duties included everything from basic office chores to grant writing and payroll and from client intake to educational in-service. Sam's duties have also included prison outreach at the Orleans Parish Prison, the St. Tammany Parish Jail and the womens prison at St. Gabriel. Sam is also the former Chair of the Title I New Orleans Regional AIDS Planning Council which oversees the provision of services to the HIV/AIDS community in the New Orleans area. A certified Red Cross HIV prevention counselor, Sam was also on the Community Advisory Board of the HIV Outpatient Client., and was a member of the NOPIC Steering Committee, serving as a consumer. Sam is a very active member of our staff who enjoys helping people.

Tammie Gosa Tammie Gosa: Part-time Operations Manager (Baton Rouge Office)

Tammie attended Southern University, Baton Rouge. Tammie has extensive experience in the health care industry and is a certified HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education Counselor. Tammie currently lives in Baton Rouge and has been a valued staff member since 2009.
