Aids Law of Louisiana Incorporated

EMERGENCY INFORMATION

In the event of an evacuation and inability to relocate within seventy-two (72) hours, AIDSLaw can be reached through the following contact:

The Philadelphia Center
2020 Centenary Blvd.
Shreveport, LA 71101
(318) 222-6633
(866) 513-2863
(318) 222-6678 (fax)

AIDSLaw is committed to assisting and educating clients through the difficulties of preparing for an evacuation. To this end, AIDSLaw has prepared an evacuation preparedness plan for clients.
Have a planned evacuation destination, away from the projected path of the storm. Knowing where you would go will help you focus on the resources available in the area where you go.
If you already have an evacuation plan in place, you can provide AIDSLaw with alternate contact information that will remain confidential.

If you intend to evacuate by car, be sure that the car is properly maintained, especially oil, water and tire pressure. Be sure to have the car’s title, registration and proof of insurance for the car. Don’t wait until the last minute to gas up.

If you have pets, plan ahead because some hotels may not accept them. Check for kennels in the place you intend to go if your family or friends can not take in your pets. If you can’t take your pets, contact the Louisiana SPCA, 701 Thayer Street, New Orleans, LA 70114, 504-368-5191.

Be sure to take the following documents:

  1. HIV/AIDS diagnosis

  2. Award letter, pay stub, most recent W-2

  3. Current lab results and other documented medical diagnoses

  4. Children’s vaccination and school reports

  5. List of current medications and one set of empty medication bottles

  6. Birth certificate

  7. Bank statements

  8. Current utility bill

  9. Current house note, lease or rental agreement

  10. Insurance policies

  11. Health and prescription drug cards

  12. Social Security card

  13. Picture ID

  14. Any other important information (lawsuit papers, etc.)

Before you leave, prepare your property and house:

  1. Lock shutters or use plywood to board up windows.

  2. Close interior doors, and draw blinds and drapes.

  3. Unplug all electrical appliances except freezers and refrigerators.

  4. Turn off gas if accessible.

  5. Move important things you can’t take with you to higher areas of house (upper shelves, tops of appliances).

  6. Store in a water-resistant container.

  7. Take pictures of property and contents.
